Mema’s Tomato Salad

Author: Sari Kamin

My grandparents used to grow tomatoes right in front of their home in Columbus,OH. The scent of fresh tomatoes was the first thing I noticed every time I got out of the car at their house.  I found this hand-written recipe for tomato salad that I’m sure my grandmother, Lillian Rosen (Mema), made as long as she had fresh tomatoes to source from  – SK

2 tomatoes
½ cup cooking oil
3 Tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. worchestire sauce
¾ tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. sugar
1/8 tsp. pepper
½ clove minced garlic
1 tsp. sweet basil
Pinch thyme
2 Tbsp. green onion

Slice tomatoes and place in bowl. Combine remaining ingredients and  pour over tomatoes. Refrigerate 1 hr. I also add cucumbers, onions, peppers, etc.
