Natasha Pogrebinsky is the chef and co- owner of Bear, a fine-dining restaurant and bar in New York City’s thriving neighborhood of Long Island City, which she opened in 2011 with her brother, Sasha. Chef Natasha has appeared on several television networks, including the Food Network’s Chopped and Chopped Redemption.
Natasha Pogrebinsky was born in Kiev, Ukraine. As a child growing up in a bustling European city, Natasha was surrounded by culture and food. She remembers going to markets, to the villages, and to the coasts of her vast homeland and experiencing the myriad tastes that it had to offer.
After receiving degrees from Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland State University, Natasha moved to New York City where she attended the French Culinary Institute (now the International Culinary Center).
After graduation, Pogrebinsky ran her own catering and private chef business, taught Restaurant Management at Brooklyn College, and worked for several highly praised restaurants in the city before opening Bear restaurant in Long Island City, Queens, only 1 mile from the hotel in which their family stayed when they first fled from the USSR.
Sasha Pogrebinsky has an MA in Russian and Slavic Studies from NYU, and a BA in Political Science with a focus on Education. Sasha is currently the co-owner of Bear, and authors the curiosity blog Rarely Known, which is also available as a book.GET THE RECIPE>
